Why Illinois?
Illinois has one of the most prestigious engineering schools on paper, but I was also thoroughly impressed with what I experienced when I visited. Walking through the engineering buildings and seeing students being immersed in hands-on labs and having the opportunity to design and build even as freshmen really resonated with me.

What has been your best experience at Illinois?
My junior level design course (ME 370) was an overall incredible experience where I got to see an idea evolve into a complete, functional product. Going through the whole ideation, design and prototyping process was riveting and so much fun, especially going through it with my awesome team members in a collaborative setting.

Favorite part about being an engineering student?
Learning about how our world works little by little everyday.

Why did you join EA?
When I was in grade school, I figured out that I enjoyed my math and science courses more than others. This led me to believe that engineering was the discipline I should pursue further. However, I was scared about what an engineering education entailed. Was it going to be too hard for me? Was this going to be worth it in the end? If I had engineering students educate me at the time on what kinds of things they were doing in school and inspire me on the magnitude of a STEM degree, it would have been a huge help for me in confidently deciding to go into mechanical engineering. I want to make sure that as many kids who are in the same boat as I was are as educated and inspired as needed for them to make the right choice about their future.

What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a STEM degree?
Like everything else in life, you get what you give. Pursuing a STEM degree is highly rewarding and extremely exciting. That is, if you put in the adequate work and apply yourself in every way possible academically. Always crave to learn and you will reap the many benefits of studying STEM.

What do you plan on doing post-graduation?
I plan on using my engineering degree to preserve the beauty that is our green planet. I hope to be working in the sustainability industry after graduation combating the effects of global warming by advancing renewable energy technologies.
