Why Illinois?

I chose Illinois for many different reasons. My intended major was Systems Engineering, so I wanted to go to a school with a good Engineering program. In addition, I am originally from Illinois so I wanted to be able to stay close to home so I could visit my parents more often. I also had many friends from my high school coming here and felt that I would be a good fit at Illinois. I am definitely glad I chose Illinois and I love it here!

What has been your best experience at Illinois?

My best experience at Illinois so far would have to be during my first semester this year, when my friends and I decided to play football at the fields. Although it may not seem like much, I really enjoy spending time with my close friends and enjoying the nice weather!

Favorite part about being an engineering student?

My favorite part about being an engineering student would have to be collaborating with other students on projects to solve problems. I really enjoy working with others in team environments because I love to interact with people. In addition, I really enjoy the hands-on side of engineering, and lots of my classes this year have involved assignments that require taking a product apart and analyzing it.

Why did you join EA?

I joined EA because I really agreed with the organization's mission and goals. I felt that EA would give me an opportunity to improve my presentation/speaking skills, along with furthering my knowledge in engineering while also teaching our younger generation about what Engineering is all about.

What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a STEM degree?

I would say to stay determined. STEM degrees are definitely filled with lots of homework and tough classes, but on the flip side, you are able to learn so many interesting things while also collaborating with other like-minded students.

What do you plan on doing post-graduation?

I am still a freshman, so that is something I have yet to figure out! However, my goal after graduating is to help as many people as possible with my background and knowledge in engineering. I like the mechanical side of engineering so hopefully something along those lines.
