Why Illinois?

After college application results came back, it came down to either Illinois or Purdue. There was really only one right choice.

What has been your best experience at Illinois?

I really depend on social interaction to motivate myself throughout the day. During the summer of 2018 and spring of 2019, I had just come off pretty terrible semesters. In summer I became great friends with a few engineers at my dining hall; we exercised everyday, played games, and talked a lot. Spring rolls by 2 semesters later and I am recovering from the previous semester by reconnecting with my friends and finding myself again. They say the sweetest success can only be tasted after the bitterest of defeats. That is definitely the case for me.

Favorite part about being an engineering student?

Being around such high functioning individuals motivates me to always try my best. Everyone in the College of Engineering is here for a purpose, and the world class work ethic of such driven people is incredibly infectious. I'm just glad I can consider myself a friend and colleague of such amazing, talented humans.

Why did you join EA?

I came in to EA a timid little freshman. Coming out of EA, I'll be nearly unrecognizable. I've developed such a great work ethic, such great organization and leadership skills, and such amazing relationships that I can scarely imagine a world where I didn't become an EA. I joined EA because I thought I could get a resume boost and fill my social quota. I ended up getting way more than I could have dreamed of.

What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a STEM degree?

If you're pursuing a STEM degree, I'm certain you're aware of how much you'll need to endure and sacrifice. So I'll just say this; anticipate failure and take it in stride, don't worry so much, and value your health despite what everyone tells you.

What do you plan on doing post-graduation?

Finding a full time job and staying in contact with the friends I made while at college. Maybe joining a music group and trying out some athletic events.
